Michael Mylrea

Senior Manager for Cybersecurity and Blockchain Lead
Dr. Michael Mylrea is a Senior Manager for Cybersecurity and Blockchain lead at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory with over 18 years experience working on cyber security, energy, technology and national security issues. Dr. Mylrea launched and led a successful cybersecurity company and has held senior positions in industry and government, including, but not limited to: U.S. Department of Energy and Defense, Cyber Innovation Development (CEO, CISO), Deloitte, US Cyber Consequences Unit, Lakeside Oil, MIT Lincoln Lab, Harvard Berkman Center, and Good Harbor Consulting (Senior Advisor to Richard Clarke). He has led cybersecurity R&D and various initiatives in partnership with large industry clients, including, but not limited to Google, UTRC, IBM, Tenable, Siemens, Guardtime and various large energy companies. Thought leadership has appeared in news, journal articles, television, and congressional testimony and is frequently cited in industry and government publications. Dr. Mylrea is an NSF Executive Cybersecurity Fellow and completed his Doctorate at George Washington University on Cyber Security and Organizational Change. He finished M.S. Cybersecurity course work, focusing on new paradigms to foster cyber resilience. Michael received an MA from The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where his thesis focused on cyber security policy. He completed negotiations and cybersecurity coursework at Harvard Law School and the Kennedy School of Government; and, received two BAs from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Michael is a recipient of a number of distinguished awards (Fulbright Scholarship, Cyber Corps, Critical Language Scholarship, Rosenthal Fellowship, FDD National Security Fellowship, Top 99 Future Leaders Award). Michael speaks Hebrew, Arabic, and Spanish and continues to struggle to learn Portuguese.
